Marvin's Speech
Receive my greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and saviour.
It is a great pleasure and honour to be tasked with a responsibility of leading the National Higher Institutions Section of the country at large.
“With great “powers” comes great responsibility.”
SCO is faced with a challenge of rightfully positioning itself in Institutions of Higher Learning so as to clearly give itself an identity to all students.
It is time now to stand as SCO and demystify and demythologize the midst that as the Organisation.
To clarify why as Students’ Christian Organisation (SCO) participate in politics in Institutions of higher learning and also why Christians should be involved in politics of this country is that the models of leadership displayed in today’s society are of abusing power and personal gain. We, as SCO, are not only primarily concerned about the pleasures of heaven or the temperature of hell, but we are also concerned about matters affecting students.
As “salt”, we penetrate society and act as a preservative against social putrefaction, restoring and affirming whatever is good and just, and lovely in the things around us (Philippians 4:8).
As “light”, we stand before forces of darkness, a sign of the truth about the human condition, and the meaning of history and human existence.
We do not participate in politics in order to:
(i) antagonize those that are not Christians,
(ii) launch political careers though this may happen as a consequence,
(iii) establish Christian institutions.
Another challenge that as the Organisation we are faced with is to stand our ground and live out the truth of the Gospel in all spheres of life in this cruel world.
Till next time, remain blessed
Mkhabele Marvin (NATHIEX Chairperson)
