Associate's News by Jack Koma

I believe that the associates’ ministry has never been needed more than it is now. Recent developments have emphasized the need for SCO to produce well groomed and grounded Christian professionals who will be able not only to stand the pressures that life throws at them but will thrive and leave a lasting impact in all spheres amidst these challenges (John 15: 16). This conviction became more apparent while I was in Port Elizabeth recently. We had a discussion which revolved around the where about of some of our recent graduates. It was sad to hear stories of what has become of some of these wonderful young men and women who have served SCO and the Lord with utmost dedication and distinction. As people who are charged with the responsibility of grooming these students to become effective Christians for today’s world, most of us staff are left asking ourselves, what could we have done better? What is it that we did not do right?

While we cannot claim that associates’ ministry will become an answer to this mammoth challenge, I believe that it will go a long way in contributing towards a lasting solution for this impasse. A major strategy that we are employing as ACF is to focus on developing core groups. These are accountability, prayer and support groups made of associates from within the same location, town, city or village. Some are made up of mutual friends with an SCO background and interest who come together to pray and support each other as well as discuss issues of common interest for their spiritual, intellectual and professional development. We are aiming at starting more groups in major cities, towns and villages of our country. If you want to see a group started in your area please don’t hesitate to contact me or the Office we will gladly assist you to start a core group.

This is SCO’s 10th Anniversary and Associates are in the fore front of a number Fundraising Banquets being organised throughout the country to celebrate 10 years of SCO’s existence. Bloemfontein is kick-starting the celebrations with a Banquet planned for the evening of Saturday 26 May 2007. For a Banquet in your area contact the Office or myself. May the good Lord continue to bless you immensely!
